Dass die Bilderung älterer Erwachsener - erneut und vielleicht etwas nachhaltiger - gegenwärtig im akademischen Diskurs an Bedeutung gewinnt, zeigt die Gründung eines neuen europäischen Netzwerkes in diesem Feld. Es handelt sich um das "ESREA network on Education and Learning of Older Adults (ELOA)". Diese thematischen Netzwerke, die jährlich oder zweijährlich Seminare und Konferenzen in verschiedenen europäischen Orten durchführen, um den Austausch und die Veröffentlichung von Forschungsergebnissen zu Schwerpunktthemen zu intensivieren, sind das "Herzstück" der europäische wissenschaftliche Fachgesellschaft ESREA. Im Folgenden sei die Gründungseinladung von Bernhard Schmidt-Hertha von der LMU München wiedergegeben und Hinweise zur Mitarbeit angeführt:
- One aim of the network is to bring forward the experience from all around Europe on issues pertaining to all kind of learning activities inside and outside formal or non-formal education and the impact of these learning processes on their living conditions.
- Secondly current European research projects should be reported and research in this area stimulated.
- Further on new research projects on a European level should be generated and policymakers should be in-formed about the meaning of learning in every age.
- The fourth aim of the network is to foster a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary dialogue for a broad understanding of the issues addressed.
There is a large variety of issues to be addressed and researched in the network, focusing the learning activities, the educational behavior and interests of older workers and retirees, the conditions of learning for older adults inside and outside the workplace, the intergenerational exchange and a lot of further topics. Central aim of the ELOA-network is to bring together research activities in this field and to establish a regular interchange of researchers who work on these topics. By exchange via internet and network meetings the European collaboration in this field of educational research should be strengthened and common research projects and publications should be initiated.
